Where the Journey Begins – The Tea Gardens
Our story starts in the lush tea estates surrounding the Nilgiris. These high-elevation gardens are known for producing some of the most aromatic and refreshing teas in the world. The cool climate, rich soil, and gentle mountain mist create the perfect environment for growing exceptional tea leaves.
At Homewood, we carefully procure tea leaves from select estates across the Nilgiris. Each batch is chosen for its quality, ensuring that only the finest leaves make their way to our factory. This careful sourcing preserves the authentic taste of Nilgiri tea - bright, fragrant, and refreshing
At the Heart of It All – Doddabetta Tea Factory
Once the leaves are harvested, they arrive at the historic Doddabetta Tea Factory, located near the second-highest peak in South India. The factory stands not only as a place of production but also as a symbol of innovation in the Nilgiri tea industry.
The vision behind this establishment came from tea industry innovator Shri N. K. Krishnamoorthy, whose contributions helped modernize tea factories across the region and improve the quality of South Indian teas.
Later, the next generation expanded this legacy by creating a Tea Museum alongside the factory, giving visitors a chance to experience the journey of tea—from its ancient origins to the final cup brewed in the Nilgiris.
The Art of Blending
Inside the factory, the freshly procured leaves go through a careful processing and purification process. Here, skilled tea experts work to preserve the natural essence of the leaves while unlocking their full flavor.
Each blend is crafted with precision, balancing strength, aroma, and texture. The tea is then categorized and refined to ensure consistency, allowing every cup to carry the distinctive character of Nilgiri tea.
